All new MWAA Police officers start in the Patrol Services Section. These officers are primarily responsible for providing Reagan National and Dulles International Airports with basic law enforcement services.

Patrol officers respond  to calls for police service, conduct preliminary investigations of crimes and offenses, make arrests, support airline security programs and the passenger screening function,  enforce airport rules and regulations, assist with
traffic and crowd control and provide information and directions to thousands of travelers
every year.

While many officers choose to remain in patrol, others apply for transfer to specialized divisions after a few years in the field.
