NOTICE OF AVAILABILITY RONALD REAGAN WASHINGTON NATIONAL AIRPORT FINAL ENVIRONMENTAL ASSESSMENT, FINDING OF NO SIGNIFICANT IMPACT RECORD OF DECISION FOR RUNWAY 1-19 RUNWAY SAFETY AREA AND RELATED IMPROVEMENTS

The Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority (MWAA) proposes to undertake improvements to Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport. The proposed action includes the following improvements: extension of the Runway 1-19 pavement 300 feet to the south; expansion of the Runway 1 Hold Apron; extension of the Taxiway J pavement 300 feet to the south; use of declared distances to maintain Runway 1-19 at its current effective length of 6,869 feet in both directions; relocation of the existing Runway 1 approach lighting system 300 feet to the south; repairs to the approach lighting system pier; relocation of the glide slope antenna; rerouting of the existing service road; grading and soil stabilization; and resurfacing of Runway 1-19. The improvements will bring the Runway Safety Area for Runway 1-19 into compliance with Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) design standards, allow the largest aircraft operating at the Airport to bypass other aircraft on the Runway 1 Hold Apron and extend the useful life of the Runway 1-19 pavement.

In conformance with the provisions of the National Environmental Policy Act, MWAA has prepared an Environmental Assessment (EA). After careful consideration of the information contained in the Final EA, the FAA has determined that significant environmental effects will not result from the proposed action. Therefore, the FAA has issued a Finding of No Significant Impact (FONSI) Record of Decision (ROD).

Beginning May 5, 2010, the Final EA and FONSI ROD will be available for public review during business hours at the following locations: Arlington County Central Library, 1015 N. Quincy St, Arlington, VA 22201; and Aurora Hills Branch Library, 735 S. 18th St, Arlington, VA, 22202. The Final EA and FONSI ROD can also be viewed by clicking here.
