Police Department and Law Enforcement
![]() |
The Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority Police Department is a full service law enforcement agency with the same responsibility as a county or municipal police agency to enforce the laws of the Commonwealth of Virginia. Our officers are fully certified by the Virginia Law Enforcement Professional Standards Commission. Authority Police also enforce Federal Regulations pertaining to airport operations. Work at our airports brings our employees into contact with a multitude of people. They range from families going on vacation to visitors and government officials from the U.S. and countries around the world. We work closely with our federal law enforcement partners and have representatives on several federal task forces. In 2009, The Authority assumed operational control over the Dulles Toll Road and our Police Department is now the primary supplier of law enforcement services along this corridor. |
| We are working hard to maintain efficient traffic flow despite the major construction taking place to extend the Metrorail line to Dulles and beyond. We also have specialized training in many areas such as working around aircraft and the new AeroTrain system at Dulles.
Our Public Safety Communications Center moved into a new space in 2009. Equipped with the latest technology, our Emergency Communications Technicians are more capable than ever to receive emergency calls and dispatch police, fire, and emergency medical support whenever they are needed. The men and women of the department are justly proud of their fine tradition of law enforcement professionalism and look forward to you joining our team of over 200 officers and 60 non-sworn personnel. If you are considering a career in law enforcement this website provides a substantial amount of information about our department. If you have further questions, please do not hesitate to contact us.
