James E. Bennett Honored by Airport Association
James E. Bennett, President /CEO of the Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority was the recipient of the American Association of Airport Executives Chair's Award.
First Established in 1954, this Award is given annually by the AAAE Chair to an Individual for Outstanding Contributions to the American Association of Airport Executives.
The award was presented to Mr. Bennett at the AAAE annual conference in Seattle, Washington on May 2nd, 2005, by Bill Barkhauer, the outgoing AAAE chair and Airport Director at the Morristown Municipal Airport in New Jersey.
Presenting the award, Mr. Barkhauer noted, "A great philosopher once said, 'No person was ever honored for what he received. Honor is the reward for what he gave.' My choice for the 2005 Chair's Award has been giving to our profession for over a quarter of a century - James E. Bennett, President and CEO of the Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority."
Mr. Bennett thanked the members of AAAE for the award and the organization for its support not only of the Washington airports but also those around the country. "AAAE has assisted airport professionals in training and technology as well as through representation in the federal government on behalf of airports. As airports take on ever growing roles in the aviation industry, it is important for airport operators to share our knowledge and have a role in shaping programs and policies that affect us. I am honored to be recognized by my peers and look forward to working with them and AAAE in the future."
Founded in 1928 and based in Alexandria, Virginia, AAAE is a non-profit professional organization whose airport executive members are responsible for the planning, management and operation of airports worldwide. For more information, visit AAAE's website at http://www.aaae.org.
