Service for Patrons with Disabilities

The Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority is fully committed to providing universal access to all public facilities and services at Washington Dulles International Airport for all of its patrons. Washington, DC, is considered one of the most accessible cities in the United States. The Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority is working to ensure that this very important gateway to our Nation's Capital is also accessible to all patrons. Click here for more information.

Elevators:

The elevators are equipped with raised Braille buttons and are accessible to wheelchair-bound patrons. At some elevators, an electronic voice announces arrival at each floor.↑(Top)

Ground Transportation:

  • Airport shuttle buses are equipped with wheelchair lifts/ramps and audible announcements.
  • Rental Car shuttles are all equipped with wheelchair ramps/lifts.
  • Washington Flyer Taxi has several vehicles within the fleet equipped to accommodate wheelchairs. Patrons who need an accessible vehicle are encouraged to reserve an accessible vehicle in advance by contacting Washington Flyer Taxi at 703-572-TAXI (8294).
  • Washington Flyer Coach buses are all wheelchair-accessible.
  • Washington Flyer Shared Van, operated by Super Shuttle and Supreme Airport Shuttle, has wheelchair-accessible vehicles. Patrons who need accessible vehicles are encouraged to reserve an accessible vehicle in advance by contacting Super Shuttle at 800-BLUEVAN (800-258-3826) or Supreme Airport Shuttle at 800-590-0000.

Pet Relief Areas:

Dulles International Airport has designated Pet Relief Areas for service animals that accompany passengers.↑(Top)

Public Parking:

Dulles International Airport's parking facilities are accessible for persons with special needs. Specially designated parking spaces are available for the disabled in vehicles displaying a government-issued plate or placard for use by the disabled. In the Hourly and Daily lots, these spaces are located on the closest possible path to the Main Terminal or to ground shuttle transportation. In the Economy lots, spaces are located adjacent to shuttle bus shelters.↑(Top)

Public Restrooms:

Restrooms are fully accessible with toilet stalls for individuals with disabilities. Most toilet stalls have infrared flush devices. All sinks in each restroom are placed at an accessible height, and infrared devices are used to activate the water at most locations. Baby changing stations have been placed at an accessible height in both men's and women's rest rooms at mast locations A unisex companion care restroom is provided adjacent to the public restrooms at many locations.↑(Top)

Public Seating:

Public seating is available throughout the terminals at the hold rooms, in the concourses, and in the baggage claim areas. ↑(Top)

Public Telephones:

In all terminals, wheelchair accessible TDD (Telecommunication Device for the Deaf) phones can be found at various locations throughout each building. Most telephones are equipped with volume control. At most locations, one telephone in each bank is wheelchair accessible and is equipped with a shelf and outlet to accommodate a patron's portable text telephone. All accessible telephones. have clear pathways for wheelchair patrons. ↑(Top)

Security Screening:

All security checkpoints are accessible. The Transportation Security Administration (TSA), which conducts passenger screening at the checkpoints, has a program to assist travelers with disabilities and medical conditions. Click here for more information.↑(Top)

Wheelchairs:

You may arrange for a wheelchairs at any terminals through your airline or with any Skycap at the Airport. Please notify your airline in advance of your visit so that they can better serve your needs.↑(Top)
