Here are the U.S. Department of Homeland Security's latest rules for passengers boarding commercial aircraft in the United States:

PASSENGERS MAY BRING THESE ITEMS TO THE CHECKPOINT (Please remove from your carry-on bag and place in the gray bins provided, in plain view): 

• Travel-size toiletries (3 ounces or less) that fit comfortably in ONE quart-size, clear plastic, zip-top bag
• Prescription liquid medications, baby formula and diabetic glucose treatments in excess of 3 ounces if these items are declared to the Transportation Security Officers at the security checkpoint

A simple way to remember this rule is "3-1-1"

• 3 ounce size (or smaller) containers of liquid or gel
• 1 quart-size, clear plastic, zip-top bag for those containers
• 1 bag per traveler, placed in the security bin

PASSENGERS MAY NOT BRING LIQUIDS, GELS, OR AEROSOLS TO THE CHECKPOINT IN EXCESS OF THE ABOVE ALLOWANCES, INCLUDING:

• Beverages
  
• Shampoo
  
• Suntan lotion
  
• Creams
  
• Toothpaste
  
• Hair gel
  
• Hair spray
  
• Liquid cosmetics
  
• Other items of similar consistency 

SUCH ITEMS MAY BE TRANSPORTED IN CHECKED BAGGAGE

BEVERAGES AND OTHER ITEMS PURCHASED AFTER SECURITY MAY BE CARRIED ON TO THE AIRCRAFT
