The Gallery Walk (Rotating Exhibits)

The Gallery Walk is located in Historic Terminal A between the Historic Lobby and the present-day ticketing lobby. The gallery includes case displays and wall display areas for two and three-dimensional works by artists from all over the local area.

Current Exhibit:  "Art + Craft: Celebrating the Creativity of Latin America" provided by the Inter-American Development Bank Cultural Center takes a unique look at the materials used in creating artwork from the regions and complements them with works by more recognized artists. The exhibit will run until April 30, 2013. 

Coming Soon to Gallery Walk: "AirCraft: The Jet as Art" by photographer Jeffrey Milstein will be on view from May 1, 2013 to December 8, 2013. The exhibit will feature pristine images of various aircraft taken from below moments before landing at airports around the country. Nearly 20 large-scale photographs will span the pedestrian walkway along Gallery Walk as passengers travel through this visually inviting area to their destinations.

 



Rotating Art

MADE: In America will feature the designs of the next generation of interior designers from The George Washington University, Corcoran School of Art + Design, University of North Carolina at Greensboro and Hickory Chair. The  designs showcase the colonial history of the nation's capital while exhibit the works of home furnishings companies. MADE: In America will be on display on the baggage claim level from April 8, 2013- May 10, 2013.

Public Art

When Terminal B/C was constructed, an Architectural Enhancement Program integrated commissioned artworks into the architecture of the Terminal. Each piece is integral to the building. Renowned Architect Cesar Pelli, who designed the Terminal, called it “a rich sequence of visual experiences.” Thirty individual works are permanent features in the building—including 10 floor medallions on the Concourse; 11 balustrades that overlook the Concourse; 5 murals; 1 bridge sculpture; 1 sunscreen panel on the south wall of the ticket level lobby; and 2 stained glass friezes on the concourse-airside curtain wall. The pieces include a great variety of materials: stained glass, marble and glass mosaics, terrazzo, cast bronze, hammered aluminum and copper, painted steel, porcelain enamel and traditional paint on board and canvas. Numerous local and national organizations were contacted to reach out to the widest possible variety of artists for the program.

Tours of the Architectural Enhancement Program are conducted by seasoned art docents from local Washington museums such as the Smithsonian National Museum of American Art and the Corcoran Gallery of Art. Tours will be conducted Monday through Friday between the hours of 10:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. Two weeks advance notice is requested to set up a tour.
